The coalition is teaming up with Lincoln Parish Schools Project ACHIEVE to recruit volunteers willing to read with a Lincoln Parish child on a weekly basis! Our goal is to pair one volunteer reader with each Pre-K through 2nd Grade child in the parish who struggles with reading.
A reading volunteer would commit to visiting the child at his/her school each week to read with that child one-to-one, under the supervision of a teacher! Now more than ever our kids are facing new and increasingly difficult challenges in the home. Single parent families, economic hardships, poverty, and other complex issues have created a deficit in the amount of time spent in the home with parents reading to their children. This is a deficit our community can not afford!
One lunch per week could help positively impact a child's future in an incalculable way! Kids with strong reading skills perform well academically in all areas of school and are less likely to engage in risky behaviors as they mature. Half an hour of your time, once per week will make a huge difference!
